Business networking is a way for businesses to meet new customers, new suppliers, new distributors and share experiences with fellow business operators. It is a practical way for start-ups and entrepreneurs to "learn the ropes" of running a business. Business networking can be as simple as talking with the business in the building next door, or an organised business networking function. It is done through Chambers of Commerce and Service Clubs. In Sutherland Shire, council and key organisations and business clusters also take a lead in promoting and facititating business networking.
Why is council involved?
Sutherland Shire Council's Economic Development Unit (EDU) supports business networking as a way to grow and develop local business and to maintain local employment opportunities.
The EDU facilitates networking functions for business clusters and hosts events such as Business Development Week and the Annual Business Conference.
Business networking is strongly associated with business development and education & training. The EDU sees the importance of the continued development of the Shire's skilled and educated workforce and works with the Sydney College of TAFE, University of Wollongong, SSHED, the Sutherland Business Education Network and St George and Sutherland Community College and the St George & Sutherland Business Enterprise Centre to promote better outcomes for business operators and the community as a whole.
