About Us

Economic Development Unit

Sutherland Shire Council's Economic Development Unit (EDU) helps local businesses grow, develop, adapt and continue to provide a diverse range of employment opportunities for the community. EDU promotes life-long learning as an objective, so our community and resident workforce remain well educated and highly skilled.

The EDU can assist businesses with planning and accessing government programs. It also assists start-ups and established businesses by arranging seminars, workshops, networking opportunities and conferences

The unit also works in collaboration with many partners from the business and education & training sectors including the BEC, TAFE, University of Wollongong and Community College, and other government agencies. These partners can be found under the Business Networking page.

EDU can assist your business by linking you to other businesses, to government and community groups. Contact us to find out how we can help you develop an existing business or set up a new business in Sutherland Shire.

EDU has a focus to:

  • -Help your business succeed in Sutherland Shire
  • -Help existing businesses grow and develop
  • -Facilitate business networks, for example at September Business Conference
  • -Fostering start-ups, new businesses and entrepreneurialism
  • -Bring new businesses and investment to the Sutherland Shire
